Water

We've spent a fair amount of time recently carrying cans of water to the veg plot and flower beds - the courgettes were very droopy in the heat - and that made us wonder where everyone in the hamlet got their water from when the houses were first built.  There's a couple of wells but certainly not one evident for each home.  We don't have one, and the house being about 150 years old, we assume there wouldn't be piped water then.  So it's a mystery!  The old original Limousin sink shows no evidence of there ever having been taps - there's just a spout to take away the waste water.  The sink itself is only about 4 cm deep, so certainly wasn't for doing much washing in, unless they used a deep bowl.

Life must have been pretty tough in those days.
